China’s first megawatt-class hydrogen power plant connected to the grid in Lu’an
2022-01-25

The city has been put on a white coat, and the water droplets turned into ice. This winter is exceptionally cold, but it could not reduce the spirit of “down-to-earth and fighting against the sky” of SinoHy Energy’s ngineers, which still insisted on the high standard and high speed construction while speeding up the project construction.

At 10:08 a.m., December 28, 2021, the first domestic megawatt-level PEM electrolytic, hydrogen storage and fuel cell power generation system for hydrogen energy comprehensive utilization demonstration station was successfully connected to the grid and generated electricity, realizing the full chain penetration for the first time and achieving a complete success in the technical verification of the whole station.

This project is a demonstration of the science and technology project “Research and Demonstration of Key Technology of Megawatt-scale Hydrogen Generation and Comprehensive Utilization” of Anhui State Grid Corporation. This demonstration project is mainly used for peak regulation demand, which can convert excess electricity into hydrogen energy and store it to replace thermal power generation for peak regulation, thus realizing ‘peak shaving and valley filling’ and generating huge energy-saving benefits. It will provide important supporting data on realizing the maximum utilization of renewable energy storage, promoting the application of electricity to hydrogen technology and multi-energy complementary self-healing micro-grid, empower “power supply + energy efficiency services”, and helping achieving the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutral.

The project adopts the most advanced PEM technology with the system includes a set of medium pressure hydrogen generation unit with an hourly hydrogen generation capacity of 220Nm3, a hydrogen storage unit, auxiliary equipment and a fuel cell power generation and compression system with a rated power generation capacity of 1MW at hydrogen purity of 99.999%. PEM technology has the technical advantages of low energy consumption, high current density, high gas generation pressure, small equipment footprint and strong resistance to fluctuations, which is suitable for hydrogen generation with renewable energy such as photovoltaic, wind power and energy storage. It is recognized as one of the most promising electrolysis technologies in the field of hydrogen generation.

Customer’s satisfaction is our motivation to move forward, and the result of the engineers working day and night tirelessly. Salute to the engineers fighting on site!
